TNHS Graduation Requirements • Earn a total of 225 credits • Pass specific subject requirements • English: 40 credits (4 years) • Math: 30 credits (3 years) • History/Social Science: 30 credits (3 years) • Laboratory Science: 20 credits (2 years) • Fine Art or Language Other Than English: 10 credits (1 year) • Career Technical Education (CTE): 10 credits (1 year) • Physical Education: 20 credits (2 years) • Health: 5 credits (1 semester) • Electives: 60 credits

  6. Graduation Credit Check • Sophomores in good academic standing should have 90 credits to date • Minimum number of credits required for sophomore status is 75 • See your counselor for transcript review

UC/CSU Eligibility Requirements (“a-g”) • History/Social Science – 2 years • English – 4 years • Math – 3 years* (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II) • Lab Science – 2 years* (1 year life & 1 year physical) • Language Other Than English – 2 years* (same language) • Visual & Performing Arts – 1 year • College Prep Elective – 1 year *additional years of subject recommended Must earn a “C” grade or better both semesters

  10. Am I Eligible for UC/CSU? • Minimum of 15 yearlong “a-g” courses in grades 9-12 • Seven of these courses must be taken in the last two years of high school • Minimum GPA of 3.0 in “a-g” coursework • SAT Reasoning Test or ACT with Writing

Private Colleges & Universities • Check individual admission requirements • SAT or ACT with Writing usually required • SAT Subject Tests may be required • Most require essays, letters of recommendation, and transcript • May require supplemental information (i.e. portfolio) • Many accept the Common Application • www.commonapp.org • May require mid-year report submissions

  12. Recommended Testing Timeline • 10th Grade • PSAT 10 (February) • 11th Grade • PSAT/NMSQT (October) • SAT Reasoning Test or ACT with Writing • Take SAT Subject Tests if specifically required by University or intended major (May or June) • 12th Grade • Repeat SAT/ACT at least once

  13. PSAT 10 • Great practice for the SAT • Provides detailed score reports • Helps identify potential AP courses • Connects to scholarship opportunities Offered to all sophomore students on February 25th

College Visits & Career Fairs • Check College/Career Center for upcoming college visits and career fairs on-campus • Listen to announcements for listing of preview days for UC, CSU, Private Colleges, Technical Schools, and Community Colleges • Schedule campus visitsby contacting colleges directly

  20. TN Career Fair • Date: Thursday, February 11th • Location: Gym • Opportunity to meet professionals from various career fields

  21. NACAC College Fair • Date: Saturday, April 30th • Time: 1:30-4:30pm • Location: Cow Palace Arena • Meet admission representatives from a wide range of postsecondary institutions
