AGRICULTURAL ASSESSMENT AND OFFICE SETUP AT ZDEC WHO: Ms. Silva, MAJ Hatfield, Mr. Hutchins, SFC Harris, SGT Jones, SrA Clark, SPC Kelly WHAT: Village Veterinary Outreach Program (VVOP) WHEN: 28-29 March 2013 WHERE: Dasht Village Cluster, Zhari District, Kandahar Province, Afghanistan OUTCOME: • KADT conducted a series of Village Veterinary Outreach Programs (VVOP) ICW 6-1 CAV during the period of 28-29 MAR 2013 IOT provide assistance to local herders in the area during their operations. To accomplish this, KADT employed internal security assets so not to distract from 6-1 CAV’s primary mission and two local para veterinarians to provide the “Face of Afghanistan” to the farmers. • This provided Afghan exposure to the project. Just as ISAF is taking a back seat to allow the ANSF to take the lead on security matters, KADT is using Afghan professionals to do the same, thus giving local farmers faith in their system. • Over the two day operations, 197 goats, 32 sheep, and 2 cows were treated. These animals were vaccinated for Tetanus, Enterotoxaemia, Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), Peste de Petits Ruminants (PPR), and dewormed. Additionally, 120 vaccines were distributed to owners whose animals were grazing and could not come to the VVOP. Upon visual inspection, both Ms. Silva and Mr. Hutchins observed that the animals overall health was well. • The ANA were useful in herding and holding the animals as the team vaccinated them. This provided an excellent “PR” opportunity for the ANSF in the eyes of residents of Dasht. This ICW the humanitarian aide that was given out by the ANA should help increase the level of support to GIRoA.
