  1. How Electric Sauna Heaters Work

  2. Electric sauna heaters are the most common type of heaters available today. Gas, wood-fired and electric sauna heaters all heat employing convection. In an electric heater, electricity is passed through resistive elements which makes electric power to be converted into heat energy, and as a result the elements heat up. Then heat is shifted from the heating elements to stones that are piled on top of them. These stones store the heat, and as a result heat the air enclosing them. Direct contact between the stones and heating elements assures the heat is shifted as effectively as feasible.

  3. When the stones are in hot state, water is gently incorporated to them which immediately evaporates to generate steam. This steam is then circulated throughout the room, making a hot, humid sauna setting.

  4. The effectiveness of electric saunas: Electric saunas are a bit less responsive to thermostat tuning than FIR or gas sauna heaters because of the time required by the elements to heat & cool. However, this is not a major problem in a sauna and is very unlikely to cause any discomfort on the overall sauna experience.

  5. The most critical thing to ensure before buying an electric sauna is it’s powerful enough to fulfil your size needs. Different sauna heaters are designed for different sized saunas. If you invest in a sauna that is too small in size, it’s unlikely to supply the heat you need. Similarly, if it is too powerful, you will find it difficult to keep the temperature & humidity at a desired level, and you might end up spending big on electricity. Remember that a bigger heater is suitable for colder climates or for a sauna with an outdoor setting.

  6. Electric saunas’ power is measured in kilowatts, however the majority of manufacturers will give some indication of the sauna size or the area that every model is designed to heat.  For most residential uses, a moderate heater will be adequate. If you are looking for a larger sauna though, you’ll also require a larger heater, which in result is likely to need 3-phase wiring. In either case, you’ll require the help of an electrician to connect the wiring to the rest of your home.
