Department of Labor Green Job Definition Green Energy Jobs include jobs in the energy-efficient building, construction, and retrofits industries; the renewable electric power industry; the energy efficient and advanced drive train vehicle industry; the bio-fuels industry; the deconstruction and materials use industries; the energy efficiency assessment industry serving the residential, commercial, or industrial sectors; and manufacturers that produce sustainable products using environmentally sustainable processes and materials.. This definition of Green Jobs is based on language in the Green Jobs Act of 2007.

Community Solutions definition of a Green Job A green job is defined as one that provides a service or produces a product in any of these categories: Increasing energy efficiency Producing renewable energy Preventing, reducing, or mitigating environmental degradation Cleaning up and restoring the natural environment Providing education, consulting, policy promotion, accreditation, trading and offsets or similar services supporting the above categories.

United Nations Environment Program Definition of a Green Job A green job includes positions in a variety of sectors that “contribute substantially to preserving or restoring environmental quality”. In addition, green jobs should also provide adequate wages, safe working conditions, and worker rights.
