  9. CHILD HUNGER STRATEGY • How Great is the Need • · There are over 18 million children who receive free or reduced price meals through the National School Lunch Program and this number continues to grow. • · It is assumed that children in need are accessing multiple programs to help meet their food needs – resources must be available at the times when children need them most: in the summer, over weekends and school vacations, afterschool and at home.

  10. Strategy Development • · Over the course of 5 months, an interdepartmental team of Feeding America staff, Network members, and stakeholders met to develop a 5-year Child Hunger Strategy to address the gaps in service to children. • · This team assessed challenges, weighed potential solutions, and developed a set of recommendations for how to best serve children in need. • · The team recommended a shift in focus to addressing needs in 4 key time periods:

  11. Summer At Home Strategy Development Weekends and Vacations After School

  12. The Goal • By 2014, increase access to meals for children in need by 20% through integration and expansion of emergency and programmatic services.

  13. Be part of the solution Donate food, donate funds, donate time.
