CURRENT ACTIVITY • 24 Research projects currently funded and on-going including nationally clinically important work in: • Pain Relief; Paracetomol Study; major study on post-operative pain relief Anaesthetics and Maxillofacial Departments • Patient psychological outcomes after breast surgery reconstruction in both men and women, in collaboration with the University of West of England • Long term outcomes for paediatric burn injury; a major study with already 120 patients recruited • Wound healing and scar management • Limbal Cell Sheets for ocular surface rehabilitation Corneo-plastic department ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, 29 JULY 2010

INNOVATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, 29 JULY 2010 Development of medical devices the QVH has active liaison with NHS Innovations to develop the commercial aspects and ensure the Trust retains the intellectual property and a prototype of a medical device is now ready for clinical trial Three other innovations are being actively pursued

Charitable funds The Trust is re-organising its charitable funds to make more money available for Research and Development, recognising that research grants may become more challenging to obtain More flexibility should allow more and larger projects to be self-funded

SUMMARY ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING, 29 JULY 2010 Research and Development has always been at the core of clinical activity at QVH We “punch well above our weight” in terms of the amount and quality of research that we are produce Major academic units see us as a very important partner in their research endeavours Research keeps our profile high nationally and internationally Its not a “nice to do” its for us a “must do”
