  2. Roanoke • Roanoke was one of the first attempts the English government made to start a colony in America • Two attempts were made at starting a colony on Roanoke • 1585 – settlers returned England • 1587 – the settler mysteriously disappear

  4. Jamestown • Jamestown was the first successful English colony/settlement in America • Jamestown was founded in 1607 • The colony was founded and financed by the Virginia Company of London • There were 144 original settlers
