  2. The Lesson Plan WHERE ARE THEY GOING? HOW WILL YOU KNOW WHEN THEY HAVE ARRIVED? HOW ARE THEY GOINGTO GET THERE?

  3. Three phases Each phase has a different function and set of instructional events. • Introductory Phase (10%) • Presentation Phase (65 %) • Concluding Phase (25%)

  4. Introductory Phase The following is crucial for success: • Gain attention • State the performance objectives • Link with competencies already required

  5. Presentation Phase • Introduce, explain and demonstrate the new learning task and related learning content. • Different knowledge, skills and attitudes are presented. These, in turn, must be practiced by the learners.

  6. Presentation Phase Exposition of the new learning content • Lead, guide, facilitate and participate in the instructional activities. • Provide feedback on performance and progress. • Facilitate and enhance learning, retention and transfer of learning.

  7. Concluding Phase • Formal evaluation and previews of future topics. • Assess the outcomes. • Provide feedback on learner performance. • Learners must be encouraged to apply what they have learned.

  8. Keep in Mind • Sticking to the manual only is not always enough • Know your students . . . & their attention span • Make learning fun, relevant, & different • Challenge the students & make them think

  9. Keep In Mind • Have a map to follow • Have a conclusion • Have students do something with the lecture material • Variety is vital . . .
