  7. Why do we enjoy being scared? • Being scared is exciting. It gets your hearts pumping, blood racing, and speeds up your breathing. • It allows us to feel these sensations without being in any real danger.

  8. What your Halloween costume says about your personality.

  9. Halloween Costumes • Women’s costumes are more subservient roles (nurse, maids…) • Men’s costumes represent the savior or heroes. • Regardless of gender, costumes are designed with sex in mind.

  10. Halloween Costumes • Costumes are a way to explore who you AREN’T, but you must have an interest in the role. • Young adults are in the stage of psychological development and are trying to figure out who they are. • Halloween is the ultimate role play day! It’s not just a day for kids!!!

  11. Halloween Costumes • Those who plan to wear costumes: 75% of 18 – 24 yr olds 50% of 35 – 44 yr olds 25% of 55 – 64 yr olds • The older you are, the less role playing excites you. You know who you are.

  12. Halloween Costumes • Vampires, devils, witches, etc. are the most popular costumes. • People get excited at playing a character that is unburdened by empathy. • They want to play the role of predator rather than the victim.

  13. Halloween Costumes • Costumes are a way to communicate with others. • They show others our fantasies! • They also allow us to hide and play a character we normally would not act like. • When you put on a mask, you summon courage that wasn’t there.
