New General Education CurriculumTimeline • September 2004 • Provost established the Task Force on General Education and Student Learning • August 2005 • Report of the Task Force on General Education and Student Learning was printed • September 2005 • Provost charged the General Education Subcommittee of the UCC with implementation of the task force recommendations

New General Education CurriculumTimeline • March 2006 – September 2006 • Subcommittee met bimonthly to develop new general education framework • Draft policy developed by subcommittee and sent to the UCC for information • Draft policy sent to faculty for input • Forums held to obtain faculty, staff, administrators input

New General Education CurriculumTimeline • September 29, 2006 • UCC approved New General Education Curriculum Framework • November 2, 2006 • Framework approved by University Council • November 11, 2006 • Framework approved by President Adams • April 20, 2007 • Framework approved by the Board of Regents Council on General Education

  5. New General Education Curriculum Status • September 2007 – ongoing • General Education Core Curriculum courses submitted by faculty through the faculty governance process • Proposed courses approved by department, school/college and University Curriculum Committee

  6. New General Education Curriculum Status • January 11, 2008 • A list of courses that satisfy the General Education Curriculum was approved by the UCC (Courses that were not in the current core still require approval of the Board of Regents Council on General Education)

World Languages, Culture, Humanities, and the Arts (12 hours) • World Languages and Culture (9 hours) • Humanities and the Arts (3 hours) V. Social Sciences (9 hours) VI. Courses Related to the Major (18 hours)

  8. General Education CurriculumAbilities • Communicate effectively through writing • Communicate effectively through speech • Critical thinking (Engage in complex thought, analysis, and reasoning) • Moral reasoning (Ethics)

  9. General Education Curriculum AbilitiesStatus Courses have been submitted through faculty governance process Courses under review by the General Education Subcommittee Inventory of courses that include the learning outcomes for General Education Abilities will be available fall semester 2009
