  2. NPFA 101-2009, Para 7.2.1.1.3.1 • For the purposes of Section 7.2, a building shall be considered to be occupied at any time it meets any of the following criteria: • (1) It is open for general occupancy. • (2) It is open to the public. • (3) It is occupied by more than 10 persons.

  3. NPFA 101-2009, Para 7.2.1.5.5 • Electrically Controlled Egress Door Assemblies. Door assemblies in the means of egress shall be permitted to be electrically locked if equipped with approved, listed hardware that incorporates a built-in switch, provided that the following conditions are met: • (1)The hardware for occupant release of the lock is affixed to the door leaf. • (2)The hardware has an obvious method of operation that is readily operated in the direction of egress. • (3)The hardware is capable of being operated with one hand in the direction of egress. • (4)Operation of the hardware interrupts the power supply directly to the electric lock and unlocks the door assembly in the direction of egress. • (5)Loss of power to the hardware automatically unlocks the door assembly in the direction of egress.

  4. NPFA 101-2006, Para 7.2.1.5.9* • A latch or other fastening device on a door shall be provided with a releasing device that has an obvious method of operation and that is readily operated under all lighting conditions. • A7.2.1.5.9 …It is also within the intent of this requirement that switches integral to traditional door knobs, lever handles, or bars, and that interrupt the power supply to an electromagnetic lock, be permitted, provided that they are affixed to the door leaf. The operating devices should be capable of being operated with one hand and should not require tight grasping, tight pinching, or twisting of the wrist to operate.

  5. LCLS BTH East Entry Module • Door release button is not ‘on the leaf.’ • Listed hardware is not utilized.

  6. PEP PN9 Entry Module Door release button is not ‘on the leaf.’ Listed hardware is not utilized.

  7. NDR Entry Module Door release IS ‘on the leaf.’ Listed hardware is not utilized. Two actions are necessary to release.

  8. ‘Ordinary’ release hardware • Normal use will result in loss of facility security.

  9. Proposed Solution! • Time Delay Release with audible alarm. • Limited implementation in Jan 2010. • If acceptable, develop long term strategy
