  6. Mission Red Cedar’s mission for all students – 1st grade through 12th - participating in our camps is:•    to gain confidence in their ability to write•    to experience a “writerly life”•    to write for extended periods of time •    to share works in progress with others •    to increase the writer’s repertoire of writing skills •    to revise camp writing pieces for publication

  7. Programming Cost Benefits Red Cedar Writing Project uses camp generated funds to cover the cost of youth camps and to provide revenue for the site to use in other ways, such as: Purchasing additional technology supplies for TCs and campers use.   Growing future leadership by funding TCs participate in national events, such as National Writing Project Annual Conference. Supporting TCs in developing new youth opportunities, like our recent Middle School Tech Camps, which offer young writers experience in digital writing and our new poetry camp.

  12. Outreach Opportunities Functioning as a “Greenhouse” Red Cedar's Youth Programs have brought youth teachers together, co-creating and planning additional outreach opportunities. WOW (Writing on Wednesdays) is a yearlong series of workshops, for an audience of 16 to 30 area elementary teachers.  TCs' experiences in providing youth leadership inspired them to provide teachers in the surrounding area with support in implementing writing workshops in their classrooms.

  13. WOW: RCWP Outreach WOW not only supported the area teachers that registered to participate, but also supported our RCWP TCs as RCWP TCs agreed to stay after each presentation to provide the featured presenters with feedback on their workshop, fine-tuning the presentation in preparation for offering that workshop for a larger audience requested by a school building or school district. TCs confidence as presenters bloomed in this type of professional development community. This arrangement of working together, with TCs supporting each other before, during, and following the workshop prepared TCs to “take their leadership skills to the next level” … ready for workshop on their own. This connection has been a great outreach tool for future youth campers, teachers interested in becoming TCs, and as an entranceway into a school district or school building seeking our professional development resources.
