Society seen as unsustainable with technology • The definition of unsustainable: something is not able to be maintained without causing damage to a resource • Humans’ work value can be seen as the resource. If something mechanical can be made in order to replace a worker, it will lower the value of the work that that person can do. • An increase in technology will also damage the work force. Jobs that have previously been accomplished by the work of human labor would now be done by a technological service therefore decreasing the amount of workers needed. • As technology advances, humans will rely more on it and depend on technology to resolve their problems.

Technology = social isolation • According to a study done by University of Arizona, social isolation is growing at a high rate in America. • The study found that a quarter of Americans say that they have no one to discuss personal problems with, which is more than double the number found in a 1985 study. • parents and teachers worried just as much about TV causing social isolation in the '50s, as they do now, with the iPod. http://health.usnews.com/health-news/news/articles/2012/08/23/modern-technology-adds-to-worldwide-obesity-woes-report

IS OIL UNSUSTAINABLE? • Recent studies have shown that of the top five oil producing countries, only one is using less than they produce • This current path could lead to an unsustainable energy source in the future • Relation: I think the auto industry has been dragging its feet with fuel efficiency and I’d like to change that • Finding a renewable energy source that is cost effective and efficient is also a goal http://www.esa.doc.gov/Blog/2012/02/22/crude-oil-and-gasoline-prices-2012
