  3. In the U.S., most people get new glasses every few years • Insurance • Affluence • New Styles • New prescription

  4. People in developed countries don’t wear glasses just because they have worse vision, but because they can afford them.

  5. Many throughout the world no longer see clearly . . . or NEVER have!

  6. Your discarded glasses can bring physical sight to the needy . . . and help to banish their spiritual blindness as well. What happens to those donated glasses? How do they get used?

  7. Free Vision Clinics at a churchsite attract many people • Some just want to have a vision test. • Others desperately hope to see clearly.

  8. People who might NEVER enter an evangelical church, will come to a free vision clinic and . . . • Experience Christ’s love through kind, helpful people. • Receive a free eye exam. • Receive glasses – most who need them can be helped. • Hear the gospel and learn about church programs. • Have many fears and misconceptions about evangelicals cleared up. ?

  9. A Vision Clinic BREAKS DOWN social & cultural barriers, gives the local church a positive name in the community and provides many follow-up contacts.

  10. So how do we get from a bag of unsorted glasses . . . . . . to fitting someone in Mexico?

  11. First we separate the cases from the glasses. Next they get washed: in the dishwasher, or by hand.

  12. The glasses are sorted, and stored by category.

  13. An autolensometer “reads” the presecription of each pair of glasses and prints it out. The glasses and their prescription go into a little zip-lock bag.

  14. They are then placed in gallon zip lock bags of similar prescriptions and organized into bins or trunks for transport. We often take 15 or more trunks on a trip!

  15. The trunks of glasses fly as luggage to our mission location.

  16. At the host church people register, and then go to the welcome & counseling area.

  17. Next is a vision test -- both distance & close vision.

  18. Using special equipment and test glasses we find the prescription needed.

  19. Before . . . and after! during . . .

  20. The rewards are GREAT! Pastors & wives in BURMA MEXICO Reading glasses sent to Cuba 300 pair of glasses went to pastors & wives in NIGERIA.

  21. A pair of glasses can change a life. . . . . . or several lives!
