  2. Introduction • Students can meet the assessment graduation requirement one of three ways: • HSPA • AHSA • Appeals • The Alternative High School Assessment (AHSA) is administered to students who have not passed the High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA). • The AHSA is administered three times per year.

  3. Timeline 11th grade 12th grade October HSPA Appeals 3rd AHSA March HSPA 1st ASHA March HSPA 2nd AHSA Appeals: HSPA scores 190-199

  4. AHSA Mathematics • Each Math Standard has Performance Assessment Tasks (PATs) associated with them. • A student is considered to have taken a “complete” set of AHSA PATs when they are administered at least one PAT in each of the 4 Standards. • Each PAT has a raw score range of 0-3. A score of 2 is considered “passing.”

  5. AHSA Language Arts Literacy • A student is considered to have taken a “complete” set of AHSA PATs when they are administered at least 2 Reading PATs and one Writing PAT. • For Reading, the raw score range for each PAT is 0-4. A score of 3 is considered “passing.” • For Writing, the raw score range is from 2-12. A score of 6 is considered “passing.”

  6. AHSA Mathematics • Through the second administration of AHSA, 8,174 students were administered at least one PAT in each Math Standard (“complete” set), with 5,010 students passing.

  7. AHSA Language Arts Literacy • Through the second administration of AHSA, 6,216 students were administered at least two Reading and one Writing PAT (“complete” set) with 2,625 students passing.

  8. February Appeals • 293 out of 586 students passed the Math appeals process. • 261 out of 324 students passed the LAL appeals process.

  9. June Appeals • 983 out of 1,369 students passed the Math appeals process. • 319 out of 517 students passed the LAL appeals process.

  10. Next Steps • The third AHSA testing window is still open and there are students who are enrolled in summer school. • The HSPA and AHSA/appeals data will be tabulated at the student level in NJSMART. • The graduation rate will then be calculated to determine the percentage of students that passed the assessment graduation requirement via HSPA or AHSA/appeals (Fall 2011).
