Tests on HTS link for NIT MgB2 conductor Phase 1 (2009-2010) : Test of strands, cables and sub-assemblies at 4.2 K (short samples -up to 1 m) Contact resistance (Cryolab, Block 4); Critical current (Block 4); Mechanical properties (Block 4); Quench characteristics. Tests on HTS link for FP7 MgB2, BSCCO and YBCO conductors Phase 1 (2010-2013) : Test of strands, cables and sub-assemblies at 4.2 – 77 K (short samples -up to 1 m length) Contact resistance; Critical current; Mechanical properties; Quench characteristics. TOT = about 100 tests Phase 2 (middle 2013 - 2014): Test of complete link about 20 m long (SM-18) Current capabilities; Thermal and electrical characteristics; Quench protection. Tests on HTS insert coils for FP7 Bi-2212 and YBCO conductors Phase 1 (2010-2013): Test of strands and cables at 4.2 K and in external field (short samples -up to 1 m) Critical current; Contact resistance Specification: 7 T in a background field of 13 T TOT = about 50 tests Phase 2 (2014): Test of insert coil – not included in FP7 Review of superconductors and magnet laboratories, 19-05-09 A. Tests on HTS stacks for HTS leads Bi-2223 conductor Test of HTS stacks at liquid nitrogen temperature for integration in HTS leads (spare leads or new requirements, i.e. construction of new components) Ic measurements as for series of stacks in LHC HTS current leads Test station for LHC HTS current leads: besides the need for test of spares, we should have at CERN a test facility for testing HTS current leads of the LHC type (more than 3000 leads in the tunnel, of which about 1000 are HTS).
