  1. StreamStatsDB:Characteristics Database for Data-Collection Stations By Kernell Ries

What is it? • MS Access database with Visual Basic user interface developed by Aqua Terra Consultants • Linked to StreamStats map in user interface showing site locations • Contains fields for all streamflow and basin characteristics that are currently used, and allows new characteristics to be added • Replaces old Basin-Characteristics File • Expandable for use with other types of data

  3. Downloading StreamStatsDB • Download at http://water.usgs.gov/osw/programs/StreamStatsDB.zip • Zip file contains program and database • NOTE: Latest version of StreamStatsDB is incompatible with current version of NFF

  4. StreamStats User Interface • Station Management TabAdd, edit, and delete data for individual or groups of stations • Statistic Management TabAdd edit, and delete types of statistics that can be entered in the Station Management Tab • Help, Exit

  7. Data Selection Select State from scroll-down list List by State, Basin, County, MCD, HUC List by Name, Station ID, or both Select individual stations for editing

  8. Data Editing Edit descriptive information or add a station in the grid frame Click on station in grid to edit statistics or delete station. Click on Add button to add new line. Double-click on some items to select options Save, cancel, or clear actions in grid Import data in NWIS, BCF, Excel, and ROI formats

  9. Station Data Window Scroll-down menus allow selection of statistic type, name, code, and source Click on the Add button to add a new statistic in the bottom row of the grid

  10. Importing NWIS, BCF, Excel Data Click on the NWIS, BCF, or Excel button in the main window to open up a window to allow specifying a file for import.

  11. Importing Region-of-Influence Data Several files need to be imported and options need to be specified to implement ROI regression for a state. Help file gives detailed description of the process.

  13. Statistic Selection Statistic types can be added, edited, or deleted Statistics types are selected from a scroll-down menu Individual statistics are highlighted for editing in the Statistics frame

  14. Adding and Editing Statistic Types • Click on Add or Edit and type any changes in the frame that appears. • Click on Delete to delete the statistic type shown in the Selection scroll-down menu. Confirmation is required. • These functions will rarely be needed.

  15. Editing Statistics • Click on a grid cell to edit it • Click on the Add button at bottom to add a new row to the grid • Double-click on the Type cell for a pull-down list of statistic types

Words of Caution • Statistics must be added in the Statistic Management area before they can be edited in the Station Management area • Be sure that editing, adding, or deleting statistic types is needed before making changes – suggest calling K. Ries (410-238-4317) • Before adding a new statistic, carefully review existing statistic definitions to be sure that the statistic is not already in the database under a different name – If it is, use the existing name

  17. Finishing the Job • Fill in the descriptive information – Useful for future regional analyses and selection of sites for drainage-area ratio estimates • Be sure to quality assure all data • Send completed files on CD or put in ftp depot
