TG/JE The Scheme • PMETB – all GPs undergo a formal 3 year scheme • 4 or 6 month posts in ST1, 6months in ST2 of which 6 months is GP • The rotations • LTFTs • Sickness absence reporting (see ‘process for sick leave flowchart’) • Absence from training - maximum 2 weeks per year or time must be made up Swindon GP Scheme website • www.swindongpeducation.co.uk New GPVTS

Teaching Schedule • 4 strands to education • GP study afternoons • Departmental teaching • Time in General Practice • Topic Based teaching • ST 1 Groups meet 2nd or 3rd Wednesday pm per month • ST2 hospital posts 1st Wednesday pm per month; GP posts 2 mornings per month • Other GP specific teaching more flexible New GPVTS

  9. Study leave (ST) • See ‘Key Points Document’ in intro pack • Application form • Expenses form • At start need to submit personal development plan (can print from eportfolio…update regularly) • SEND TO GP OFFICE! New GPVTS

ST1 and 2s • Allowance 30 days • ½ day per month in GP small group teaching • ½ day per month in practice or equivalent e.g. 1 day/ 2months • ½ day per month hospital departmental teaching (bleep free) • Remaining time to include: • GP training/ conferences/ courses organised by the school • Sessions/ courses relevant to PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PLAN New GPVTS

  11. GP days (MV/MH) • Plan well in advance: book study leave • Whole days 6 x per year • Educational Supervisor Report needs doing 2 x per year • Make the most of them! New GPVTS

  13. What you need to do! (LA) • Join RCGP as an Associate in training to get an e-portfolio login • Contact GP trainer (educational supervisor throughout) • Ensure you know who your clinical supervisor is. • Submit your study leave application…. To the office! New GPVTS

  20. Format • Modular academic programme in primary care for trainees in Severn leading towards MSC, PG diploma, or PG Certificate. • Based on the results of a survey of trainees reporting that 96% would like an additional academic award.

  21. Benefits • Opportunity to gain a higher qualification • Runs alongside gp training scheme • Relevant to general practice and to compulsory examinations. • Improve CV • Networking with colleagues

  22. Format 3 • After the Teaching and learning module, • 6 credits gained towards 30 required for certificate. Tim Bilham, school for health, University of Bath • Options, likely to include: • Managament, law/ethics, leadership, clinical topics: dermatology, sexual health, palliative care, pharmacology/therapeutics, sports medicine, respiratory medicine, occupational health, …….
