  1. SUCCESSFUL PERFORMING TIPSFOR CHOIR

  2. VOCAL HEALTH(Bell Ringer 1) • SINGING IS MORE FUN WHEN YOUR VOICE IS IN GOOD SHAPE. • DRINK PLENTY OF WATER: • TO IMPROVE YOUR TONE QUALTIY • TO KEEP UP YOUR ENERGY FOR SINGING • TO MAKE IT EASIER TO SING FOR A LONG TIME • TO KEEP YOUR VOICE HEALTHY “ Music is a gift that can be shared by all people.”

  3. TIP 1- POSTURE & BREATHING(Bell Ringer 2) • PRACTICE GOOD SINGING POSTURE DURING EVERY REHEARSAL. • LOOK GOOD & SOUND GOOD! • CHECK THESE AREAS: Head Level Backbone straight Balanced from front to back (not leaning) Legs slightly apart Balanced from side to side • AS YOU INHALE THROUGH YOUR NOSE, FEEL YOUR STOMACH EXPAND • KEEP YOUR SHOULDERS DOWN AS YOUR LUNGS EXPAND WITH AIR.

  4. TIP 2- BUILDING MUSCLES! (Bell Ringer 3) • BREATH QUIETLY THROUGH YOUR NOSE. A DEEP BREATH WILL RELAX YOUR BODY. • KEEP AIR MOVING SMOOTHLY FORWARD TO CREATE A GOOD TONE QUALITY. • USE YOUR STOMACH MUSCLES TO CONTROL AIR PRESSURE. PUSH OUT SLIGHTLY WITH YOUR STOMACH AS YOU STEADILY RELEASE THE AIR. • CONTINUE TO SING RIGHT TO THE END OF EACH NOTE. • LET YOUR VOICE FILL THE ROOM WITH SOUND DURING EACH NOTE.

  5. Bell Ringer 4 • Write 3 sentences about the Video “Whacky Do Re Mi” • Include a least one musical term in each sentence.

  6. Bell Ringer 5 • Write 5 sentences total. • Include facts from each of the first 4 Bell Ringers. • Turn in your Choir Log (spiral notebook ) to Mrs. Gifford for a grade for the first interim.

  7. TIP 3- TONE PRODUCTION(Bell Ringer 6 - 1st Bell Ringer for 2nd half of 1st 9 weeks) • OPEN YOUR MOUTH NORTH/SOUTH TO LET SOUND COME OUT FREELY. YOU TONE IS MUCH BETTER WHEN IT IS NOT MUFFLED BY A HALF-CLOSED MOUTH. • THINK OF A VOWEL AS A CIRCLE OF SOUND. • FEEL STOMACH EXPAND AS YOU BREATHE IN. • SHOULDERS SHOULD STAY RELAXED AND DOWN. • FEEL THE BEAT OF THE SONG MOVING STEADILY INSIDE YOUR BODY AS YOU SING.

  8. TIP 4- BREATHING(Bell Ringer 7) • AS YOU INHALE, IMAGINE THE FIRST PITCH IN YOUR MIND. • BREATHE IN THE FIRST PITCH. THEN SING OUT THE PITCH PERFECTLY IN TUNE. • FOCUS ON THE AIR FULL OF OXYGEN AROUND YOU. BREATHE DEEPLY BEFORE EACH LONG PHRASE. • FEEL THE ENERGY FROM THE OXYGEN AS YOU SING. • KEEP YOUR HEAD POSITON LEVEL.

  9. Bell Ringer 8 • Why study music? • Write 3 sentences on why you think it is important to study music. Use complete sentences.

  10. TIP 5- PITCH(Bell Ringer 9) • KEEP YOUR ELBOWS SLIGHTLY FORWARD AS YOU HOLD YOUR MUSIC. • KEEP YOUR RIB CAGE RAISED AS YOU SING. • KEEP YOUR BREATHE MOVING. • IF YOU START TO GO FLAT, INCREASE THE ENERGY IN YOUR VOICE. VOCAL ENERGY KEEPS THE TONES UP. • KEEP YOU CHECKS LIFTED AND SMILE.

  11. TIP 6- AIR PRESSURE (BELL RINGER 10) • WHEN YOU SING LONG NOTES, KEEP THE TUNING PERFECTLY EVEN BY KEEPING THE AIR PRESSURE STEADY. • TUNE WITH OTHER SINGERS. BLEND WITH THE CHOIR. • WHEN SINGING FORTE AND PIANO, IMAGINE YOUR MOUTH SHAPED INTO A LARGE CIRCLE.
