  3. 1. How perfect is the Market? Thorstein Veblen [647]: Is wealth & its conspicuous display is honourable, in & of itself? At some point money is just score keeping. Daniel Bell [649] The Cultural Contradiction of capitalism is that it’s a system that grows via savings but, in the end, breeds consumption. Wk. 13-3

Unfinished Business:Remember: • A perfect market is like a free lunch (neither exist). • If something doesn’t seem right, look at it closely.If it has stupid written all over it, don’t do it! • People prefer more freedom to less (try to give them it).(Farmer’s Law)[from soap to information] • Rights are the poor relation to power(Sheppard’s Power Law). • Capacity required expands to meet Capacity available(Sheppard’s Demand Law). • It’s always a bunch of little things. • There’s nothing new under the sun (ignore the Zeitgeist). • You can’t count past nine (7 + or - 2) . • There’s always something else.   6. 4. Roger & Me (1989, 91 Min.s) A feature-length documentary film chronicling the efforts of G.M., as it turns its hometown of Flint, Michigan, into a ghost town. In a quest to discover why GM would want to do such a thing, Flint native Michael Moore, tries to meet G.M. chair, Roger Smith, and invite him out for a few beers up in Flint to ‘talk things over.’ • In between efforts to see Smith, Moore, son of a Flint autoworker, takes us on a bizarre journey thru Flint accompanied along the way by a U.S. President, Miss America, and a TV evangelist - who show up to save Flint from destruction.
