  11. Freshman Electives • Art I • This course offers a studio experience including: drawing, painting, design, ceramics and sculpture in which the elements and principles of art and design are stressed.

  12. Freshman Electives • Communications/Public Speaking • This course is designed to prepare students effectively for oral presentations and expression. Students participate in elements of effective voice, articulation, diction, poise, listening exercises and develop confidence in front of audiences.

  13. Freshman Electives • Theatre Arts I • This course introduces students to theatre arts including history of theatre, stage vocabulary and movement, basics of improvisation and scene study.

  14. Freshman Electives • Freshman Seminar • This required course is designed to promote a successful transition between middle and high school. (organizational skills, time management, study skills, career exploration, etc.) • Classroom Guidance

  15. Freshman Electives • Creative Living • This course is required of all freshman and is divided into the following: family, consumer education, food and nutrition and childcare.

  16. Freshman Electives • French I • This course offers an introduction to all aspects of French culture with emphasis on a parallel view of a French student’s life. Everyday vocabulary and basic grammar are featured.

  17. Freshman Electives • Latin I • This course teaches comprehension of the Latin language through practice in reading. There is an added emphasis on improving English vocabulary via Latin roots.

Freshman Electives • Spanish I • This course concentrates on the present tense, vocabulary and other basic grammatical structures, conversation, listening and reading. • Spanish II • The second of the two core courses in Spanish. Focus is on the two past tenses, additional vocabulary and more advanced grammatical structures.

  19. Freshman Electives • Communication Technology • This course focuses on several hands on activities that will expose students to desktop publishing, computer graphics, computer graphics and design and photography. A good course to expose students interested in graphic design or photography.

  20. Freshman Electives • Enery, Power and Transportation • This course will allow students to study energy types and sources, power transmission, and various transportation systems. Students will work on internal and external combustion engines, magnetic levitation, lasers, fiber optics and flight and rocketry.

  21. Freshman Electives • Wood Technology I • This course familiarizes students with basic hand and power tool operation. Safe and proper use of the tools is emphasized. Students are required to design, layout and produce several projects.

  22. Freshman Electives • Beginning Steel Band • This course is an ensemble consisting of authentic steel drum and percussion instruments. Students will learn to play a variety of music, most of which will remain true to the Caribbean style.

  23. Freshman Electives • Concert Band • This course has students learning and developing a deeper understanding of musical concepts and a variety of band literature. Two concerts a year are performed and students must also participate in Marching Band.

  24. Freshman Electives • Choral Class • This course is required of all non-instrumental freshman who elect to take chorus. Topics covered include: operas, musical theatre, sight-singing and written theory.

  25. Freshman Electives • Orchestra • Students will learn and develop a deeper understanding of musical concepts by rehearsing and performing a variety of orchestral literature. Skills learned in lessons will be applied to the orchestra experience. Two concerts a year will be held.
