  1. In 1774 there was a law passed called the Quartering Act. A law is basically a rule. The Quartering act was a law that forced the Colonists to take care of British soldiers. Since a majority of colonists did not follow this law the British Government retaliated. The British Government is a group of British people that make laws. Retaliate means to fight back. The government retaliated by not letting the Colonists meet until they followed the Quartering Act. A few years later the government passed a law called the Townshend Act. The Townshend Act is a law that says Colonists had to pay taxes on glass, lead, pants, paper and tea. This means that they had to pay extra money for those items. Because of this the Colonists started a boycott. Once upon a time there were two groups of people. They were called the Colonists and the British. The British wanted to acquire more land so they went after the Colonists. The Colonists had to protect their land so they went to war with the British. War is basically a fight between two large different groups of people. The Colonists won.

  2. In the year 1770, 8 British soldiers fired shots into a crowd of Colonists. 5 Colonists died. The Colonists believed that the British soldiers fired for no reason at all. But the soldiers claim during their trial tat their leader told them to fire. A trial is the process of trying to prove whether or not someone has committed a crime. During the trial their leader Captain Thomas Preston says that he told his men to hold their fire. J. Hakim says that the Colonists started the fight because they told the soldiers to get jobs cleaning toilets. In 1836 John Bufford created a painting of the fight between the soldiers and the Colonists. In this painting the Colonists were fighting the soldiers back with knives and clubs. In 1773 on December 16th Colonists dressed up as Mohawk Indians. On that night they boarded three British tea ships. They broke open the tea chest and tossed about 90,000 pounds of tea into the Boston Harbor in a state of protest. A protest is when you go against something that you don’t believe in. Later in 1774 this protest became known as the Boston Tea Party. Because of what the Colonists did the British Government passed a series of laws so harsh. They were so harsh that the Colonists called them “intolerable acts.” These laws shut down the Boston Harbor, civilian courts and placed Massetchusets under British control.

  3. In 1775 the British were on their way to deliver a letter. They received word that there was a group of hundreds of people to stop them. The British continued their journey, well prepared to attack without the intention to attack. This means that they went with weapons just in case they had to fight, but they weren’t meaning to fight. But upon the British’s upcoming the Colonist fired two sots. In a reaction to the shots, without any orders the British fired back. A number of Colonists killed was not determined because they were behind walls. One year later, a guy named Thomas Paine wrote a book called Common Sense. 120,000 copies of this book was sold. It talked about how weird it was that the British had more power than the Colonists. It was weird because the Colonists had a large kingdom than the British. Soon enough this book had some Colonists believe that the book could help with getting their independence. This means that some Colonists thought that this book could help them get their freedom.

  4. The next day there was a trial also known as the “ Declaration of Independence. “ This trial determined basic rights that shouldn’t be taken away. Take freedom for example. To keep these right secure meaning under control , government was formed. Government is a group of people that keep laws and other people under control. In 1773 the British came up with a peace agreement. This peace agreement basically destroyed any kind of drama or trouble that they had. The peace agreement allowed the Colonists’ land to be extended. And the land that was confiscated from the British was given back to them. This means that whatever land was taken from then was given back to them after the piece agreement was signed by both Colonists and British representatives.
