  1. No Child Left Behind (NCLB) to Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) • NCLB put in place measures that exposed achievement gaps among traditionally underserved students and their peers and spurred an important national dialogue on education improvement. This focus on accountability has been critical in ensuring a quality education for all children, yet also revealed challenges in the effective implementation of this goal. • Parents, educators, and elected officials across the country recognized that a strong, updated law was necessary to expand opportunity to all students; support schools, teachers, and principals; and to strengthen our education system and economy. • ESSA would make significant changes to the current NCLB authorization, consolidating some programs, repurposing others, and adding entirely new programs, including a $250 million preschool initiative to be jointly administered by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Education.

Educational Law: Every Student Succeeds Act • ESSA shined a light on where students were making progress and where they needed additional support, regardless of race, income, zip code, disability, home language, or background. • Title Monies and School Improvement Grants (SIGs) were designed to turn-around lower performing schools through specific interventions, programs, and supports.

Greenburgh-North Castle ESSA Supports • Literacy and Math programs such as but not limited to iReady, Staff Supports, Technology, and Reading-Materials • On-Line Credit Recovery Programs • Assessments and Academic Materials • Professional Development • Transition and Community Programs • Parental/Community Collabo

  4. ESSA-Funded Programmatic Complaints/Questions • Discussion of programs and/or Complaints should be directed to the New York State Education Department (NYSED). This procedure offers parents and other stakeholders a process to file and resolve any complaint in a timely fashion. • Submission to NYSED should Include: • Statement of Issue; Facts; and Recommendations • E-Mailed to conappta@nysed.gov or mailed to:

  5. Contact Information • Within 60 State agency work days of receiving the complaint, a Letter of Resolution will be sent via mail or email with confirmation to the alleged with a copy to the complainant.

Accountability/Evaluation In order to support our students and insure our ESSA programs are implemented to fruition; the following measures are in place: • Monthly review of programs and allocations of funds with building administration. • Bi-Monthly review of programs with cabinet and district-level administration. • Data will be collected with regard to pre/post analyses of all programs. We will include formative data as well as participation analysis. All data will be presented during the Spring/Summer review meetings. The committee will determine effectiveness by artifacts, documents, and data collected. • Spring/Summer review of all programs with ESSA committee, including parents/guardians, agency personnel, district/building administrators, clinical team, and staff.
