  2. Vocabulary Cell - The basic unit of structure and function in all living thing’s. Organism - A living thing. Tissue - A group of cells that work together to perform a certain function. Organ - A group of tissues that work together to do a job for the body. Organ System -A group of organs that work together to do a job for the body. Microorganism - An organism that is too small to be seen with the unaided eye. Bacteria - A certain type of microorganism: Some bacteria can make you sick. Mold – A kind of fungus. Protist - A single-celled or multi-celled organism that share traits with plants or animals.

  3. Single Cell and Multi- Celled organism Single cell organism are made up of one cell. Examples are: • Amoebas • Algae • Plankton • Bacteria Multi-cellular organisms have more than one cell. Examples are: • Plants • Animals • Fungi

  4. Animal Cell • Hold Cells together • Helps the cells stay health • The brain of the cell • Helps the cells divide • Releases energy for food • Stores food, water or wastes

  5. Plant Cell • Protects the plant • Hold the cell together • Helps the cells stay health • The brain of the cell • Releases energy for food • Stores food, water or wastes • Makes food for the plant

  7. Microorganisms Harmful E.coli is harmful because it can give you food poisoning and make you sick. Beneficial Penicillin is beneficial because it kills harmful bacteria that can kill people. Harmful and Beneficial Bacteria is both helpful and harmful. It is harmful because it can cause tooth decay. It is helpful because it can contains Probiotics that help you digest food.

  8. Microscope A tool that makes small objects appear larger. You can use a Microscope to see thing’s that you can’t see with your eyes alone. Van Leeuwenhoek was the first person to discover micro-organisms with a microscope.
