  1. Practical Exercise Building a training strategy and deployment concept Brief during the O206

  2. PE Overview Scenario Information. 3HBCT, 4ID has been notified of an impending deployment to the GA/AT region. The BCT is a follow-on force and is likely to either reinforce the remainder of 4ID in major combat operations against Ahuristan Forces, should it come to that, or assume a leading role in stability operations. Division has yet to provide training guidance that pertains to 3HBCT since the official division training guidance was published before the unit’s return from deployment. Requirement. As the HBCT’s staff and as its separate battalions, you are required to prepare a brief a training “long-range” strategy and deployment/RSOI briefing for the 4ID commander. The briefing will cover the timeframe from the end of reset all the way through the deployment to Azerbaijan. The commander would like to see this in relation to time and space/location. Consider this a concept that the HBCT commander wants to bring to higher for approval. This briefing is necessary in order to receive a contract for training between the brigade and the battalion with the division commander.

  3. PE Factors • Timeline: It is now November 2016. You have returned from a previous deployment in the Middle East three months ago and are currently in the reset phase. FORSCOM scheduled the 3HBCT certifying MRX for October 2017. The unit is expected to be in theatre EAD of January 2018. • Training: EUCOM recently sent out a message stating that training requirements (FORSCOM Commander’s Training and Leader Development Guidance, dated 20 Oct 2010) is applicable for units deploying to the GAAT region. FORSCOM has published a draft unit rotation schedule with projected major regional training exercise (MRX) dates in support of EUCOM’s force needs. The 3HBCT is currently projected to go through their MRX at the National Training Center in October 2017. • Personnel. The unit will experience a 60 percent turnover of personnel over the last three months as Soldiers PCS and new replacement arrive. HRC has projected the unit to be 65 percent filled on January 2017, 85 percent filled by April 2017, and 100 percent filled NLT July 2017. The changes are consistent across all MOSs and ranks. • Equipment. The BCT currently only has two companies of M2s and two companies of M1s. The remainder of the M1s and M2s was signed over to the unit that replaced 3HBCT in their previous deployment. AMC has projected to get the unit up to 85 percent on-hand equipment by April 2017, and 100 percent on-hand equipment NLT July 2017. • Other Planning Guidance: • Disregard post cycles. (3BCT is relieved of all DRB requirements until further notice) • Consider weekends and holidays (i.e., Christmas holidays) and block leave. • Assume training resources (land and ammunition) are not restrictions.
