  4. Successes • Brainwashed kids • Compulsory membership – growth in numbers • Took over children’s spare time • Promoted nationalism and teaching the love of Nazism

  5. Failures • Rival groups emerged – Edelweiss Pirates, Swing Movement • Many youth escaped the compulsory membership • Growth in opposition of ideology
