  2. Outline • Role of CC • Structure of UL – specifics of CC & CP, faculties‘ and their activities • Presentation of current CC activities • International activities and career paths

Role of career centres in higher education • A valued element of accreditation procedures and evaluations (UL CC, 2015). • Offeringeconomic and social advantages for individualsand HEIs (UL CC, 2015; own elaboration): • reduced dropout rates and increase in study motivation due to correct choice of study programme; • Improved „matching“; • more realistic expectations of students regarding study programmes; • improved study programmes; • better cooperation among stakeholders.

  4. Overview of UL – framework for understanding CC specifics • The oldest and the largest highereducation and scientific researchinstitution in Slovenia. It iscomprehensive, traditional and researchoriented. • Roots from 17th century, officiallyfounded in 1919. • Consistsof23faculties and 3 arts academies. • More than 40.000 students(more than 2.300 foreign students), employs approximately 5.600 highereducation teachers, researchers,assistants and administrative staff. • Ranks among the top 3% universities in the world, according to Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities, Times THSE-QS ranking and Webometrics Ranking of World universities. • Hosts app 1700 exchange students everyyear from more than 40 countries.

Specific FAUL perspective on the issue • University level – CC & CP • But, faculty level also: • CDPE: • Why: field specific activities, PA • Why: international accreditations of study programmes • Why: networking, faculty counsel • Internship: • Obligatory course • Why: Transfer of knowledge • Why: Matching with relevant stakeholders • Challenge: integrating university & faculty level activities: • Utilization of funds and activities • Some good practices!

  7. Activities of CC – before enrollment The University Career centres offer advice and guidance to future students: • The choice of a degree programme has a major impact on one’s career and life • Counselling on the choice of degree programme – also by Skype

Activities of CC – during studies and after studies Students are encouraged through different activities to be active during their studies: • personal counselling (613 in 2016/17); • Workshops: self-evaluation, job searchstrategies, career plan, writtenpresentation, job interview, CV andcoveringletter, etc. (380 in 2016/17); • providingworkshops in English: searchingforstudyandinternshipopportunitiesabroad; • events dedicated to entrepreneurship, internships, planninginternationalmobility etc. (Challenges Abroad) • Skype sessions with career counsellors from abroad – multilateralcooperation; • career days - camps; • „Speed dating“ eventsbetweenstudentsand employers(e.g. Elevator Pitch Festival); • presentations of employers at faculties • visits of students to employers’ business premises (Events with Slovenian fastest-growing companies) • counselling by counsellors fromabroad via Skype. • weekly news about scholarships, job vacancies, events;monthly E-newsletter (41.562 in 2016/17). • Alumni - new Plan your career wisely and, most of all, IN TIME
