Graduation Requirements: • Washington State’s graduation requirements for the class of 2011: • Complete minimum number of credits in required content areas (currently 22.50) • Complete a culminating project • Complete a High School and Beyond Plan (also known as the 13th Year Plan) • Meet standard on the HSPE, EOC or an alternative

Financial Aid Resources Financial Aid Preview: Get a jump start on the FAFSA with this new website: www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov FAFSA: FREE Application for Federal Student Aid: www.fafsa.ed.gov FAFSA PIN: Both parent and student apply for a PIN so that you can sign your application electronically: www.pin.ed.gov Financial Aid Information:www.finaid.org EHS will be hosting a financial aid parent night sometime in October – watch the bulletin and website for the date Turn in your application on January 1, 2012!

  5. Scholarships • We update our scholarship list every 1-2 weeks. Copies available in the Guidance Office or online at www.eagles.edu Our website is new, information will be posted on it ASAP • Apply for scholarships at the college/university you are going to attend. • Do not ever pay for scholarship assistance. If they ask for money, it is probably a scam! • www.fastweb.com: free scholarship search and other helpful information. • www.washboard.org: fill out one application to have access to a statewide and national database of scholarships

Technical Colleges • Offer a variety of programs. • Students are able to focus on a certain career goal. • Degrees range from certificates to bachelors and beyond. • There are 5 technical colleges in Washington offering about 130 programs. • Bates Technical College: www.bates.ctc.edu • Bellingham Technical College: www.beltc.ctc.edu • Clover Park Technical College: www.cptc.edu • Lake Washington Technical College: www.lwtc.ctc.edu • Renton Technical College: www.rtc.edu

  7. 2-Year College Information • Most have rolling admissions and require a placement test instead of SAT or ACT • Although they have fewer admission requirements, students still must be prepared for college level work, or will need remediation • Offer Certificate and Degree programs including technical programs • Have activities that still allow students the “college experience” • Applications are due later than 4 year college applications, but numbers are at an all time high and classes fill up fast!

Current WA State 4-Year College Requirements Course Credits English 4.0 Social Studies 3.0 Math through Algebra II (prefer Pre-Calculus) 3.0 This is in addition to students being required to take math or chemistry their senior year unless Pre-Calculus has already been completed Foreign Language 2.0 Fine Arts 1.0 Lab Science 2.0 * GPA, SAT & ACT scores examined for admission in addition to core academic courses.

  9. 4-Year College Information • Be aware of application deadlines and fees: fee waivers are available, and some schools waive the fee for online applications. • Scholarship deadlines are usually different--and often earlier--than admissions deadlines, and require separate applications. Make sure to check school website for information on scholarship deadlines. • Priority admissions: Students apply at an earlier time and are notified earlier. • Automatic vs. comprehensive review: some schools have automatic admission with minimum GPA. Most schools also use the comprehensive review which looks at students holistically. • Counselors will be meeting with 4 year college bound students during FLEX time mid-October: listen to the bulletin for details
