Aviva at a glance • Aviva is the world’s fifth largest insurance company and the largest in the UK. • Main activities are long-term savings, fund management and general insurance. • We are the leading provider of life and pensions products in Europe and have substantial businesses elsewhere around the world. • We have premium income and investment sales of £41.5 billion and £364 billion of assets under management. • We have 59,000 employees serving 40 million customers worldwide.

Aviva and the Global Compact • Became a signatory in August 2001. • 10 Principles under four key themes of environment, labour, human rights and anti-corruption – reflected in our existing policies on: • Standards of business conduct • Human rights and Diversity • Environment • Our people policies • Annually publish details of how we’re supporting the GC and its 10 principles in our CSR report.

Aviva’s ongoing support for the GC • Established UK Network in June 2003. • Two primary objectives: • opportunity for national discussion on how best to integrate Global Compact principles into both business strategy and practice. • one main UK focus for interaction with the Global Compact and one feedback channel for opinion of UK signatories. • Aviva chaired network until December 2006. • Aviva subsidiaries in Lithuania and Turkey have participated locally. Possibilities in Spain & France. • In 2006, Morley signed Principles of Responsible Investment

Benefits of the Global Compact • UN provides international platform without side, national agenda. • Seeks to engage the corporate world in tackling some of gravest social and environmental challenges. • Harmonised effort – brining together governments, trades union, academics, NGOs and businesses. • Business-led initiative.

  7. Benefits of the GC UK Network • Opportunity to share best practice and to be reviewed/assessed by your peers. • Cross-sectoral networking. • Representative – businesses, trades union, NGOs and government. • Engaging with other networks and their member organisations.
