  2. General Profile of PWDs in Malaysia According to estimation of WHO, there are 5-10% of Malaysia population are PWDs, which is approximately 1.03 to 2.7 million. Prepared by Sia Siew Chin

  3. Number of PWDs According to Types of Disabilities (WDM2012April) 

  4. Beautiful Gate’s caring ministry for PWDs started since 1993 at Petaling Jaya.

  5. Six more centres were set up in various cities and leading by PWDs KAMPAR – 1999 Leader: Racheal Tan, a polio victim SEREMBAN – 2001 Leader: Wong Soo Pin, a polio victim KEPONG – 1996 Leader: Kenneth Teng, a quadriplegic KLANG – 2006 Leader: Lee Yew Hoe, cerebral palsy MANJUNG – 2009 Leader: Norwis Boon, a quadriplegic MELAKA – 2006 Leader: Lee Siew Pang Prepared by Sia Siew Chin

  6. Independent Living and Leadership Training Project were introduced to Malaysia since 2005 by Human Care Association from Japan.

  7. Beautiful Gate set up an Independent Living Centre, named as Society of Independent Living For Disabled, Selangor, in year 2008.

  19. Improvement in Transportation • 100 of accessible bus by Rapid KL • 3 Rapid Mobiliti, accessible van • 10 Train Station and 24 Light Rail Transit station • 38 sets of Commuter Train • Accessible Inter-City Electric Train Service

  20. Improvement in Transportation • Preparing • Code of Practice (COP) & Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for air transport • Guidelines for Universal Access Bus, • Guidelines on Disabled Friendly Facilities for Transport Provider • Guidelines on Disabled Friendly Facilities for Train Station.

  21. Improvement in Built Environment • Printed Manual Universal Design & training Access Audit Facilitator • Provide Access Audit training to staffs in local government. • Upgrading accessibilities for disabled students in school. Policy of One district One primary and One secondary school for disabled is implemented.
