Fr David – the person • Family – one of ten children who possessed a great community spirit • Culture – great love of art, theatre, music and social gatherings • Explorer – traveller and outdoor pursuits • Friend – a man of smiles and bear hugs whose warmth and friendship knew no barriers Rock-climbing at Aberdour, 1991

  3. Fr David – the priest • Humble - said “thank you” often and sincerely • Humorous – mimic and story teller (sermons) • Charismatic – embraced all, reckless generosity • Spiritual – inspiring faith • Acted justly • Loved tenderly • Walked humbly with his God

  4. L’ Arche • Founder - Jean Vanier 1964 • Ecumenical roots • Embraces individuals with learning disabilities • Today: 135 communities in 35 countries • Two Scottish communities – Edinburgh and Inverness

  5. David Gemmell Living Memorial Fund - Aim • Place people with learning disabilities at the heart of our society • We need to build communities of love (Fr. David) • Contribute to a new L’Arche home or facility named in memory of Fr. David – the person, the priest
