  2. Customer Service When classes come to visit the library it is our job to help them find what they need. Student service help in three ways: • Checking out books • Checking out supplies • Helping students locate materials D. Leavitt La Mesa Library

Checking out Books To check out a book to a student: • Scan their ID card • Check to see if they have any overdues or fines (If they do they will have to talk to Mrs. L or Mrs. B) • Scan the La Mesa barcode on the book • Rub the spine on the silver brick • Stamp the due date • Show the due date to the student when you give them the book D.   4. Checking out Books Assignment 9: Go to Mrs. B and practice checking out three books. Put the books in the “Returned Materials” pile when you are done and have her initial your check sheet. D. Leavitt La Mesa Library

  5. Book Returns If a student wants to return a book . . . • Check the due date • If it is NOT overdue put it in the “Returned Materials” pile • If it is overdue send them to see Mrs. B or Mrs. L D. Leavitt La Mesa Library

  6. Book Returns Assignment 10: Go to the assignment basket and separate the books into two piles: • “Returned Materials” • Students to see an adult Have Mrs. B or Mrs. L check your work and initial your check sheet. D. Leavitt La Mesa Library

  7. Supplies Supplies are located in the drawers under the circulation desk. To loan out supplies . . . • Take the student’s ID card • Put it in the supply drawer and give them the supply they need • Give them back the ID card when they return the supplies D. Leavitt La Mesa Library

  8. Locating Materials Students may need help locating books. If they do, make sure they have the call number and the name of the book. Then help them find the book on the shelf. D. Leavitt La Mesa Library
