  4. Essential Question • Should high schools have only one valedictorian? • Do you think it is necessary for high schools to have valedictorians at all? • Why or Why not?

  5. HOMEWORK • Finish the Margaret Talbot opinion question.

  6. Table Discussions • What problems do schools that select valedictorians encounter? • Why should schools have valedictorians? • What rules for naming a valedictorian should schools establish? • Why are schools experiencing more problems with valedictorians today as opposed to years past? • Should schools post class rankings on transcripts so students see this ranking throughout high school?

  7. “Best in Class” • As you read, identify multiple perspectives on the issue of honoring valedictorians and salutatorians. • Chart the students involved in the various conflicts regarding who wins the valedictory title. For example: • Denny Davies vs. Kylie Barker
