  2. Role of Secretary • Assist the president with board governance • Robert’s Rules of Order • Chapter Bylaws • Chapter Policies • Keep accurate records of the chapter • Orient new board members • Prepare annual report

Governance • Chapter bylaws • Be familiar with the chapter bylaws • Bring a copy to each meeting • Reference the bylaws when needed • Assist the board with policy development • Monitor Open Meeting Law compliance • Ensure agendas are posted in advance of meeting • Make available meeting minutes no later than 30 days after the meeting • Record board meetings

  4. Recordkeeping • Take minutes of board meetings • Maintain chapter files • Meeting minutes, tracking board member attendance • Annual disclosure & agreement forms • Annual reports • Chapter bylaws • Chapter policies • Board roster

  5. Orient New Board Members • Before their first meeting, have new board members read and sign the following documents: • Board & officer conflict of interest policy • Access & confidentiality agreement for volunteers • Provide new board members with important chapter documents, such as: • Chapter bylaws • Board roster • Board of director expectations • Position description

  6. Year-end Reporting Chapter handbook includes a required annual report called, “Chapters in Good Standing” report Template in draft form Review and send thoughts to Amy.Bouchard@unlv.edu First report due Sept. 1, 2012 and will cover activities from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012
