  1. How To Avoid Buying Fake Diamonds? What can be more terrible than presenting your loved one with a fake diamond during engagement or wedding? This can happen with rise in imposters selling fake diamonds in the market. This can be definitely avoided if you pay attention to few things while purchasing the diamond. Here are some checklist to carry out while buying diamonds: Observe the diamond through a magnifying glass : Every certified diamond wholesaler has a magnifying glass, observe the diamond through this glass. Look for edges, round edges means fake diamond because real diamond has sharp edges. Natural or real diamond has some imperfections in carbon whereas fake diamonds are perfect. Rub diamond with sandpaper: diamond is the hardest material on earth. If you scratch it with sandpaper it will remain same but if it's fake it will get scratched up. Get certificate of authenticity: Ask for authenticity certificate of diamond while buying. Every certified diamond wholesaler will provide you authenticity certificate from LGP, GIA or AGSL. 4 C’s carat, cut, color and clarity of the diamond can be judged through this certificate. This certificate assigns grade to the diamond which determines its value and cost. Ask gemmologist: Find a qualified and reputed gemologist and get your diamond checked from him or her. Gemologists have profound knowledge about diamonds and their opinion can be trusted 100%. Just do not confuse sales person in jewelry store for gemologist, find a real one. Certified diamond manufacturers generally have gemologists at their store. Fog test: Breathe hot air on diamond, if it is fake it will fog up for some time while GIA certified diamond wont fog up because it doesn't retain the heat.

  2. See how it sparkles in light: If you hold a real diamond in light it will glitter gray and white inside and reflect rainbow colors outside. Fake diamond will show rainbow colors inside the diamond. Observe refractivity of the stone: the GIA certified diamond has splendid sparkle which is because of its high refractive index. Place the diamond upside down on newspaper and refractivity should cause light to bounce in different directions. You should not be able to see through the bottom of real diamond. Fake diamond will allow you to see the newspaper through bottom. Get diamonds X-rayed: Real diamonds do not appear in X-rays results. Get your stone x-rayed, if it appears in x-ray results you don't need to purchase it. Make sure you buy diamond from a certified diamond manufacturer to avoid buying fake diamond. Keep in mind all these factors and carry all necessary tests to make sure you are buying a real diamond.
