Engineered wood flooring is considered to be more stable than real wood flooring. The engineered hardwood floor is one of the best alternatives to traditional hardwood flooring. Engineered wood is still real wood compared to laminate flooring, which is a composite product. Engineered wood flooring is made of finished wood and plywood. This mix allows engineered flooring to be much cheaper than traditional hardwood flooring, yet still have many of its features. E En ng gi in ne ee er re ed d h ha ar rd dw wo oo od d f fl lo oo or rs s can have many of the same characteristics as traditional hardwood floors. The wooden floor is exclusively made of solid wood planks. No additional material is added to it. Laminate flooring is composed of wood chip composite, which consists of only a small amount of real wood. Engineered wood flooring is composed of solid finish wood on top, with plywood on the bottom. The top is what is visible, but the plywood accounts for about 80% of the composition. Some homeowners choose engineered hardwood flooring over solid wood because it is more resistant to changes in temperature and humidity. Another benefit of engineered wood flooring is its durability. This durability comes from the way the floor is made, with each plywood layer placed perpendicular to the adjacent layer. There are several layers of plywood sandwiched like this. This helps each board to be highly durable and even slightly moisture resistant. Engineered flooring is also generally very easy to install. There are several installation methods available to choose from, including nailing or gluing. A floating floor installation method is one that has become popular, as do-it-yourself

  2. homeowners can often install it. This type of floor has a male and female locking system that does not require glue or nails. Unlike laminate flooring, engineered wood flooring can be sanded, but usually only once or twice. The top layer is made up of wood trim that is typically 1/16 in. (1.6 mm) to 1/8 in. (3 mm) or slightly thicker. This can be sanded and stained, but sanding more than a few times can make the plywood layers visible. Many engineered hardwood floors are pre-finished, so the owner should check with the manufacturer if sanding is necessary. Engineered wood flooring is available in a variety of wood types. It is often available pre-stained and ready for installation. Engineered wood generally costs less than traditional hardwood but is generally more expensive than veneer. The quality and durability of engineered hardwood helps make the expense worthwhile. Not all products are made equal and quality may vary. Buyers should compare wood texture, price, durability, and method of installation when choosing a hardwood floor. In fact, it is advisable to see and feel the wood, as this can give a real indication of the quality and appeal.
