  1. Timetable & Seating Plans All students will be issued with both an Individual Candidate Timetable and a Seating Timetable. A generic timetable will be displayed on the school website. Seating Plans will be displayed outside the Dining Room. If you have lost your individual timetable an additional copy can be obtained from Reception for 20p.

  2. Start Times Exam sessions will normally start at 9:00am and 1:15pm. GCSE students are to report to the Dining Room at 8:45am and 1:10pm promptly.

  3. Briefing Subject teachers will address GCSE students in the Dining Room before each exam. Please ensure that you arrive in plenty of time for the briefing and make sure that you listen carefully to the instructions and advice given.

  4. Exam Rules All students must familiarise themselves with the JCQ ‘warning’ and ‘information’ documents which can be found on the school’s website in the pupil/exam section. If you have any questions with reference to exam rules please discuss these before the exam with Mrs Covey or your Progress Tutor.

  5. Mobile Phones & Other Electronic Communication Equipment You should not take a mobile phone, ipod, MP3/4 player or any other electronic communication or storage devise into an exam room. If you do it must be switched off and handed into the invigilator before the start of the exam. If you have set an alarm on a mobile phone the battery must be removed.

  6. EQUIPMENT Make sure that you have a clear pencil case and a supply of black pens and HB pencils. You should also have a ruler, pencil sharpener, rubber, protractor, compass and set square. Please note that the tin boxes that maths sets are sold in are not allowed in the exam room. You must provide your own scientific calculator. You are responsible for ensuring that it works, has batteries and you must clear any information or stored programmes before the exam. Calculator instructions and cases are not permitted in the exam room. If you have bought a new calculator for an exam please make sure that you know how to use it!

  7. WATER Only water bottles are allowed in the exam room. No fizzy drinks or sweets. If you bring a water bottle into the exam room please ensure that you remove the label.

  8. Late Arrivals If you arrive late for an Exam you must report to the main reception desk and advise them that you are late for an external exam. The office will contact Mrs Covey who will decide whether or not you will be allowed to take the exam. If you are allowed to take the exam a report may be submitted to the Exam Board who will decide whether or not they will accept your work.

  9. Unable to Attend / Unwell During an Exam If you are unable to take an exam due to illness or for any other reason you must contact Mrs Covey via the main school office. If you are ill your parent/guardian will be asked to provide a letter detailing the circumstances surrounding your absence and you may need a letter from your doctor. If you are feeling unwell during an exam you must advise the Invigilator who will contact Mrs Covey. A decision will be made as to whether or not you are fit to continue with the exam.

  10. Conduct Once inside the exam room you should not speak and should listen to and follow carefully any instructions given by the invigilators. Invigilators should be treated with the same respect as any other member of staff.

  11. Fire Alarm If the fire alarm sounds during an exam you must follow the instructions given by the Senior Invigilator. In the event of an evacuation you must ensure that you do not communicate with other students. If you do communicate with other students you may find yourself disqualified by the exam board.

  12. If you fail to follow exam rules you will be subject to a penalty and possible disqualification.
