  1. The Difference Between IPL and Laser Hair Removal These two hair removal processes may be confused with one another as they both use light to reduce hair growth on the body. Both use lasers. Laser hair removal, of course, uses lasers, but IPL stands for intense pulsed light which also uses light pulses to heat the hair follicles and stop the regrowth of hair. Although these two methods may sound similar or even the same to the novice, there is a key difference and that lies in the type of light that is used to remove the hair. Laser hair removal treatments will target hair that is in the active growth cycle. The lasers that are used are beams that consist of specifically controlled energy pulses that can be absorbed by the pigment or melanin in the hair itself and in doing so it then reaches the active follicles that are embedded in the skin.
