Our Logo (Designed by a student) Using Center of Teacher Education (CTE) as a main figure, yellow and white are the colors of the catholic pope flag which stands for we are the part of the Catholic University. The other colors stand for we are active as shining sun. Expecting educators to be the lights of the world and the salt of the earth.(瑪竇福音第五章13-16節) 2

Goals and Practices Courses • Secondary Education Teacher Program: 26 Credit hours • Elementary Education Teacher Program: 40 Credit hours Extra-Curriculum • Service Learning • Serial activities:Pre-service development activities (Speeches on current educational issues, Variety of Certificate programs), Student Association, Student advisors, Graduate ceremony, etc. Hidden Curriculum • Teacher’s Modeling behavior • Environmental Design • Reflection on every activity attended • Everybody involves in each activity Practicum • Student-teacher center design, considering the needs of the student teacher 3

  7. Facilities Media • Each classroom has a set of multi-media equipment • Electronic pianos for the elementary education course Texts and Teaching Materials • Providing different kinds of texts for elementary and secondary education student-teachers. 6

Students & Recruitment Secondary education student-teachers • From 1996 to 2004 Academic Years, 100 students were recruited each year. • 2005 academic year, 90 students were recruited. • Each year had average 200 students applied. Elementary education student-teachers • From 2002 to 2004 academic years, 50 students were recruited each year. • 2005 academic year, 45 students were recruited. • Each year had average 100 students applied. 7

Admission Requirement Academic Performance • GPA should be the top 50% of the Class • Student Conduct behavior should have no bad records Application • Exam on the current educational issues • Providing Autobiography, Participation of student activities, Service activities, and career plan, etc. • Interview 8

Curriculum & Instruction Varity of Courses • Consideration of Educational needs • Taking Course in sequences • Principles of Teaching→Curriculum Development and Design →Educational Measurement and Assessment, Instructional Materials and Methodsfor each field →Student Teaching • Providing advisor for each student • Requisite course work • Secondary education teachers: 14 credit hours (7 courses) • Elementary education teachers: 30 credit hours (15 courses) • Selected course work • Secondary education teachers: 12 credit hours (6 courses) • Elementary education teachers: 10 credit hours (5 courses) 9

Practicum • Each faculty advises about 12 student-teachers. • At least 2 times of school visits each semester. • Students come back to the university each month. • Providing professional development program • Group meeting and counseling with the faculty • In school, students have practice teaching, administrative work and classroom management. They also need to attend professional development provided by the schools or other educational agency. • About 80% of Certified students became school teachers. 10
