  2. Ares • The god of war. • Hateful throughout the Iliad. • Some say he was mean and brave. • Some say he was a coward. • Son of Zeus and Hera. • Aphrodite's secret lover. • Symbol of war. • Came from Thrace. • His bird is the Vulture.

Hephaestus • Some say he is the lame and ugly god. • But he is actually the god of fire. • Son of Zeus and Hera. • His mother cast him out of heaven when she saw him deformed. • He is honored in Olympus. • His wife is Aphrodite. • He is the peaceful god. • He is the protector of the smiths. • He is the god of ceremony.

  4. Hestia • Zeus sister. • Virgin goddess. • She plays no part in the myths. • Goddess of the Hearth. • Symbol of home. • Every meal began and ended with an offering to her.
