  1. FEE for PHOS #3 01/10/2008 PHOS Meeting Fumihiro Chuman, Takashi Iwasaki Hiroshima Univ. Quark Physics Lab.

  2. Introduction • 112 FEEs are necessary for PHOS#3. The mass production of the FEE were done at Wuhan, and 124 FEEs had reached from Wuhan already last Spring. All of them have already passed tests at Wuhan. • They need to be modified and tested before installation. • With help by Sasha and Dong, we did the following modification and operation check from 28/07/2008 to 25/08/2008 to make FEEs of PHOS#3 ready for installation.

  3. Modification • Remove resistance 1758 and change resistance R84 to 2.7k • Remove ST2 Jumper and put ST1 Jumper • Glue socket for shielding • Glue TY connector for reinforcing • Detail slides are in back up

  4. Operation Check Set up • Switch on FEE by apdgui • check whether the FEEs are switched on • Reprogram firmware • The one for the test -> Bergen 3.5 • Stress-test the FEEs • Write values to ADC and some resisters and confirm whether same values can be read. • Switch off FEE by apdgui • check whether the FEEs LED switch off • Repeat above 1-4 steps if any problem happen. DAQ computer

  5. Test results and conclusion • Number of FEE:124 • Good FEE: 109 • Bad FEE : 15 • Missing TY connector: 7 • But 6 FEE passed operation check • Operation problem: 9 • One FEE have both problem • I put those details below • https://www.hepl.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/member/record/iwasaki/0823_PHOS3_modification_and_test.xls • The number of good FEEs doesn't reach 112 pieces necessary for the installation. Dong is investigating the bad FEE and plans to prepare enough FEE for PHOS #3 installation.

  7. Modification 1 • Remove a resistance 1758 and replace a resistance R84 to 2.7k • Resistance 1758 was used when the test of the GTL bus without RCU, and now it doesn’t need because it’s contained in RCU. • The value of the resistance R84 was wrong due to a design error. • Remove ST2 jumper and put ST1 jumper ST2 jumper Change R84 to 2.7K

  8. Modification 2 • Glue 23 sockets for supporting cooling cupper plates. • Glue TY connector for reinforcing • This connector was fragile

  9. Details of operation problems • FEE020007: Stress test failedFEE020030: Couldn’t power onFEE020034: Stress test failed and LED didn’t flashFEE020094: Stress test failedFEE020159: Stress test failedFEE020163: Couldn’t power off but stress test is goodFEE020167: Couldn’t power off but stress test is goodFEE020242: Couldn’t power onFEE020244: Couldn’t power off but stress test is good

  10. TY connector • TY connector is output from each of 14 FEEs to TRU for sum of all amplitudes. Reinforced TY connector Missing TY connector
