  2. Question 1 Which equation describes the relation shown in the table? • y = x + 2 • y= 4x + 2 • y= 5x - 2 • y= 6x – 5

  3. Answer Which equation describes the relation shown in the table? • y = x + 2 1 + 2 = 3  but 2 + 2 = 4  • y= 4x + 2 4 ∙ 1 + 2 = 6  • y= 5x - 2 5 ∙ 1 - 2 = 3  and 5 ∙ 2 – 2 = 8  • y= 6x – 5 6 ∙ 1 – 5 = 1 

  7. Question # 3 Julio drinks at least 16 ounces of milk every day. Which expression best describes the amount of milk Julio drinks over any given number of days? Let A represent the amount of milk, and d represent the number of days. A. A ≥ 16 + d B. A ≥ 16d C. A > 16d2 D. A = 16d

  8. Answer Julio drinks at least 16 ounces of milk every day. Which expression best describes the amount of milk Julio drinks over any given number of days? Let A represent the amount of milk, and d represent the number of days. A. A ≥ 16 + d B. A ≥ 16d “At Least” means “the same as or . more than” C. A > 16d2 D. A = 16d

  10. Question # 4 Which situation could be described by the expression x + 4 ? 2 F. Amanda ate half as many cookies as 4 more than the number her brother ate G. Kasey needs 4 cups of orange halves and has cut x oranges in half H. Daoud read twice as many books as Janey, who read 4 books I. Nicolas is 4 years older than one-half of his sister’s age

  11. Answer Which situation could be described by the expression x /2 + 4 ? F. Amanda ate half as many cookies as 4 more than the number her brother ate x + 4 2 G. Kasey needs 4 cups of orange halves and has cut x oranges in half x/2 = 4 cups H. Daoud read twice as many books as Janey, who read 4 books 2x where x=4 I. Nicolas is 4 years older than one-half of his sister’s age

  13. Question # 5 • The Sojourn family went on a vacation. They • started with $2000. If they spent $150 each day, which expression represents how much money they had after x days? • A 1850x • B 2000 −150x • C 150x • D 2000 +150x

  14. Answer • The Sojourn family went on a vacation. They • started with $2000. If they spent $150 each day, which expression represents how much money they had after x days? • A 1850xThis shows that they spent $1850 each day • B 2000 −150xThis shows that they started with 2000, and takes away 150 times the number of days, which is what they spent • C 150xThis is just 150 times the number of days, and doesn’t mention what they started with • D 2000 +150xThis equation adds on what they spent, instead of subtracting

  17. Answer You need to find how far the snail has moved in a minute. Find 1 minute on the x-axis. Move upward along the 1-minute grid line until you reach the line of the graph. Look across to the y-axis and you will see that the snail has moved 1 ½ feet.

  19. Question # 7 • Florida State law requires that 2% of the parking lot spaces be reserved for cars with handicapped permits. This law is represented by the equation H – 0.02s, where H is the number of handicapped spaces and s is the total number of spaces. A movie theater has 800 parking spaces. How many spaces should be reserved for handicapped drivers?

  20. Answer • What do you need to know? • Florida State law requires that 2% of the parking lot spaces be reserved for cars with handicapped permits. This law is represented by the equation H – 0.02s, where H is the number of handicapped spaces and s is the total number of spaces. A movie theater has 800 parking spaces. How many spaces should be reserved for handicapped drivers? • 2% of 800 • = 0.02 x 800 • = 16 Or: 1% - 1 out of 100 So 2% is 2 out of 100 So if you have 800, 2 % = 2 x 8 = 16

  22. Question # 8 Ramon works as a salesperson. In addition to his base salary of $300, each week Ramon is paid a commission equal to 8% on his total sales. This week his paycheck was for $900. His weekly pay can be represented by the equation below, where s represents total sales, in dollars, for the week. 300 + 0.08s = 900 In dollars, what was the amount of Ramon’s sales for the week?

  23. Answer You are given the formula 300 + 0.08s = 900 What do you add to 300 to get 900? 600! So 0.08s = 600 Remember your fact families? If 0.08 times s = 600 , then 600 ÷ 0.08 = s __________ __7500_____ 0.08 ) 600 8 ) 60000 So Ramon’s sales were $7500

  25. Question # 9 Which equation best describes the relation shown in the table? • y = 8x • y = 2x • y = 2x2 • Y = x + 5x

  26. Answer Which equation best describes the relation shown in the table? • y = 8x 8 x 0 = 0  but 8 x 1 = 8  • y = 2x 2 x 0 = 0 AND 2 x 1 = 2  but2 x 3 = 6  • y = 2x2 2 x 0 = 0  and 2 x 1 = 2 and 2 x 4 = 8 and 2 x 9 = 18  • Y = x + 5x

  28. Question 10 • What value of k makes the following • equation true? k ÷ 3 = 36 • A 108 • B 98 • C 39 • D 12

  29. Answer • What value of k makes the following • equation true? k ÷ 3 = 36 • Remember your fact families! • k÷ 3 = 36 k ÷ 36 = 3 • 36 x 3 = k 3 x 36 = k = 108
