  2. What is flannel board? • Visual aid display • Cloth board • Types based on the materials used • Flannel board – flannel cloth • Felt board- felt cloth

  3. How to make a flannel board? REQUIREMENTS :- Plywood or heavy Cardboard, flannel cloth , glue or stapler or duct tape. PROCEDURE :- Take a piece of flannel cloth that is big enough to cover the front of the cardboard & wrap around to the back to be attached. Attach extra material to the back using glue or stapler or duct tape.

  4. Points to be considered while making a flannel board Good quality materials should be used Size of the flannel board Size of the cut-outs Colour contrast of the cut-outs

  5. Uses of flannel board • Display pictures – enables the teacher to remember more details • In case of diagrams, proper detailing can be shown • Explain Processes- Continuous sequence of the process • Showing inter relationship between different parts or steps of a process • Concept maps

  6. Narrate a Story with pictures - dramatic association of pictures and symbols supplemented by teacher commentary heighten learning interest is heightened.

  7. Advantages of Flannel board • Increases effectiveness of teaching • Difficult concepts are made easy. • It can be used by both the teachers as well the pupils, for teaching and learning various skills such as reading, telling stories etc.  • It permits restudy. • It helps the teacher for evaluation • Can easily switch the pieces from activity to activity.

Quickness & ease with which the display material can be changed without use of drawing pins or paste make it most desirable and conversant display board The changing of pictures is able to kindle enthusiasm n interest of teachers as well as students Sequential change of material on flannel board provides continuity in the development of the lesson

  9. Disadvantages of Flannel board • Presentation is limited, a new idea involves a lapse of time before the new material can be added • Cannot use flannel board for all the concepts. Eg: Pictures etc can be showed on charts also • Students can get confused if the process is done wrongly by the teacher. • Cannot be used for evaluating large no of students
