  2. Why Take EXPLORE? • Taking the EXPLORE test in 8th grade tells you things you need to know: *Plan your high school courses *Prepare for the ACT *Help choose a career direction

  3. Plan for High School Classes • The Explore Test will help you choose courses that will get you ready for college. • Shows you the subjects in which you need to improve. • Helps you see which subjects are most important for certain careers.

  4. Prepare for the ACT Test  ACT stands for American College Testing *This is a test or assessment given to students who plan to attend college. It is used to assess your aptitude in English, Math, Reading, and Science. *It is an important test that colleges use to help them make admissions and scholarship decisions.

  5. Help Choose a Career Direction • The EXPLORE results helps you start by focusing on a few Career Areas • The EXPLORE results help you look at the World-of-Work-Map http://www.act.org/explorestudent/ • The are career pathways that you can choose in High School

  6. Common Questions About Explore • Explore is a timed test: English – 40 questions Math – 30 questions Reading – 30 questions Science – 28 questions You will have 30 minutes to complete each section

  7. Common Questions About Explore Part of the Explore Test is completing an Interest Inventory. Be Honest – It will help match up potential career choices to your interests!

  8. Common Questions About Explore How many of you are interested in college or trade school? The Explore Test measures what you know today and not all the things that you will learn in high school. Remember….The Explore Test is a tool to help you plan for high school and beyond!

  9. Common Questions About Explore • Should I guess at a question? There is no penalty for guessing on Explore. • Not Sure of the answer? Rule out every wrong answer you can then pick the best answer from those left.

  10. What is Next? • 8th Grade Students will participate in: December – Tour the BCTAL (Birdville Center for Technology and Advanced Learning) December – Receive Explore results January – High School Counselors to visit NRMS to register for Freshman Classes
