Approach to learning • Inquiry-based approach to learning – incorporating all curriculum areas Subjects also taught stand alone. • Differentiation and support • Learner profile – 10 attributes • ICT used when it is appropriate – IWB, cameras, chrome book computers, • i-Touches, iPads, • The Buzz LT

Daily Routines Children must not arrive at school before 8 a.m. Monday: Mandarin Tuesday: Mandarin, PE for all year 2 Wednesday: Mandarin, PE for 2H,2T Music for 2F,2G, all classes Art Thursday: PE for 2G, Music for 2H, 2T, all classes Library. Friday: Assembly Any change to the end of day routine must be recorded in your child’s diary. TF

Reading and Magic words • Children will take home 1 appropriate leveled reading book daily. • Each day children will be expected to independently exchange their books and record the title in their reading records. We will check these regularly. • Magic words are coming home as assessed. We are reassessing to ensure they have consolidated previous words sets and will send home appropriate words in the back of their reading records. • Words need to be at best practiced daily. When your child knows these really well they will need to let their teacher know as per last year and we will assess them. LT

  6. Lunch and Snack • 10 minutes to eat snack • 20 minutes to eat lunch in the classroom • Healthy food choices are encouraged • Please send in food that your child likes to • eat • NUT FREE ZONE • No cans, glass bottles or fizzy drinks in school TF

Enjoying Homework • We will be emailing each fortnight to let you know what we will be covering • in class the following week. • This will include suggested ideas for activities that you can do at home. • Tips: • Relaxed, fun and something your child looks forward to • Simple books offer success, confidence and sheer enjoyment • Better to do one book properly, developing vocabulary and comprehension • than rush through all books- it is not a race • Children need to be able to read and spell high frequency words Homework LT

  8. Communication Diaries – Change of routine, bus info. (walkers) If there is a change of plan please phone the school and leave a message with the school or the EA. Email- Sickness, appointments Mrs Thomas–lorinda.thomas@bs.esf.edu.hk Mr Flaherty –thomas.flaherty@bs.esf.edu.hk Class parent–Cake sales, PTA, weather, contact details for communication Telephone- It is difficult to take calls during the school day, but we will return calls as soon as possible TF

Parent Gateway • PLEASE update any change of information on the Gateway e.g change of address or contact numbers • Completed sections of reports can be accessed throughout the year • Reports can be downloaded as a PDF document and printed off by parents at the end of each term • The school will not be sending home a hard copy of the report • Parent/Teacher Consultations - booking appointments • will be online through Gateway

  10. Volunteer in our Classroom! Parent involvement • We value the teacher/parent relationship. You can be involved in your child’s school life in the following ways: • Class helpers – please see sign up sheet • Class helpers will be required to either take a group for an activity or admin jobs in the classroom – such as making resources. This will commence the week beginning Monday 15th September. • Educational visits (parents only) • Sending in useable school materials when • requested i.e. shoe boxes for Habitats UOI
