  12. Strategic Plan • Strengthen collaboration in the SOM • Hire faculty to “beef up” the M.S. and Ph.D. teaching and research programs in the Graduate School • Drs. Donna Brogan and Michael Kutner were recruited in 1971 to carry out strategic plan • Brogan got the “plush office” • Kutner became heavily involved with the General Clinical Research Center (GCRC)

  13. Other Significant Hires • Drs. Michael Haber and Ira Longini were recruited to strengthen the doctoral program • Associate Faculty member Mike Lynn along with Drs. Al Bartolucci and Steve Moffitt were recruited to work on the Southeastern Co-opertative Cancer Group Statistical Data Coordinating Center

Bioinformatics • Executive Director of WHSC decided that the development of Bioinformatics would be best handled in our department. • Bioinformatics is added to name of department with the approval of the Board of Trustees in 2007 • Department is notified of the name change • New faculty slots in Bioinformatics approved and funded for new Chair
