  1. U.D.O.T. Equipment Operations

  2. Equipment for better utilization & multi purpose use • lift axles • double wings • Attenuators • 3 axle pup trailers • Snow-Blower with Road Travel Speed No need to transport

  3. Higher Productivity Better Technologies • Right size vehicles to lowest level & smaller engines for MPG. • Larger Dump Beds for increased capacity • Larger Spreaders • Longer - snow trucks routes.Increased utilization • Tow plow and muni-body- We purchased 2 tow plows and 2 municipal bodies to go with them to increase snow plow efficiency. • Preco GPS system- We have installed ten GPS units in our dump trucks to monitor blade wear and material usage

  4. 1st Response Unit- We have purchased 2 more 1st response units which gives us the capability to have a directional chute as well as mix salt water with the salt to make a slurry to put down on the road. This should help the materials effectiveness. • Performance Chips- We have installed performance chips on 16 light-duty pickup trucks to improve power and increase fuel economy. • Epoke Spreader- We are going to test an Epoke sander for better spreading results. This is similar technology to the 1st response. • Rock Bed- We are buying a rock bed so that when we haul rock loads it will not destroy the side of the dump body.

  5. UDOT is retrofitting 20 dump trucks with diesel oxidation catalyst filters in order to clean up diesel emissions and lower carbon output. We are working with the Division of Environmental Quality and they will be helping us document and track the reduction in carbon output. • By renting equipment new and selling off older owned units were able to reduce pollution output because were now operating new cleaner Tier II and III engines in those rental units. Increase the use of CNG in our Bi-fuel vehicles we will measure and track CNG usage in order to increase its use.

  6. Reduction in Fleet Size Reduction of permanent light vehicles- In fiscal year 2010 UDOT has reduced its permanent light vehicle count by 18 vehicles. The estimated cost savings for the remainder of FY2010 is $26,417.00. The estimated cost savings for future, FY2011 will be $52,833.00UDOT started using trucks with lift axles, double wing trucks, dump truck mounted sweeper attachments and started using attenuators that are mounted to a dump truck to increase efficiency Reduction of permanent heavy equipment- In fiscal year 2010 UDOT has reduced its permanent heavy equipment fleet count by 9 vehicles. The estimated cost savings for the remainder of FY2010 is $9,480.00. The estimated cost savings for future, FY2011 will be $18,960.00.

  7. Reduction of temporary light vehicles- In fiscal year 2010 UDOT has reduced its temporary light vehicle fleet count by 19 vehicles. The estimated cost savings for the remainder of FY2010 is $23,007.00.  *Note: The total estimated cost savings for FY2010 is $58,904.00. The total estimated cost savings for FY2011 and beyond is $73,793.00. For details see accompanying spreadsheet.

  8. Equipment / Buy Back • UDOT also started the buy-back option so that we would have new graders, loaders, farm tractors and skid steer loaders so that we would have the newest engine technology. • Graders • 4 YD. Loaders • Skid Steer Loaders

  9. Seasonal Rental’s • Tractor / 31 • Loaders / 13 • Backhoes / 26 • Graders / 7

  11. Cost & Exception Report – Hit ListWarranty Tracking / In HouseRecovery $49,158.00Shop Repair Tracking Report Card’s

  12. Smaller Vehicles • Started using a small F-550 truck in place of a single axle dump truck in some applications which saved $5,880 per truck. At this time UDOT currently has 7 of these trucks in our fleet at a savings of $41,160 per year in fuel cost as well as maintenance. • UDOT has 16 hybrid vehicles , Downsize from midsize to compact hybrid • UDOT has downsized 4 vehicles from a ½ ton to mini-pickups, 2 vehicles from a ¾ ton to a ½ ton pickup and 4 trucks from a 1 ton to a ¾ ton pickup.

  13. Fuel • Goal 2- UDOT is currently burning b20 diesel in 11 locations which is approximately 9,000 gallons per month. • UDOT has purchased a dedicated CNG street sweeper • Results:UDOT has burned 22,785 gallons of bio-diesel in FY 2007 and has burned 201,509 in FY 2008. Which represents 7% of our total diesel fuel consumed • UDOT has implemented an idle reduction program to monitor our idle time, as of this last year we reduced our idle time by 3.5%.

  14. UDOT is retrofitting 20 dump trucks with diesel oxidation catalyst filters in order to clean up diesel emissions and lower carbon output. We are working with the Division of Environmental Quality and they will be helping us document and track the reduction in carbon output. By renting equipment new and selling off older owned units were able to reduce pollution output because were now operating new cleaner Tier II and III engines in those rental units. Increase the use of CNG in our Bi-fuel vehicles we will measure and track CNG usage in order to increase its use.

  15. Goals that were submitted on 10/01/2008 for FY2009 • Decrease total gallons of fuel consumed by state vehicles- UDOT is going to try to purchase more hybrids in our light duty fleet as well as our heavy duty fleet. • Results- UDOT has purchased a dedicated CNG street sweeper. UDOT is also in the process of retrofitting 2 light-duty pickup trucks with CNG. UDOT has also purchased 4 more hybrid vehicles to bring the total up to 16. • Decrease total gallons of fuel consumed by state vehicles- UDOT has just implemented an idle reduction program to monitor our idle time in an effort to reduce idle time. • Results- UDOT has reduced the idle time on our 10 wheel dump trucks by 3.5% this year. • Decrease number of state vehicles- UDOT is currently looking at our fleet to reduce our fleet size according to utilization. • Results- UDOT has reduced its heavy-duty fleet by 10 pieces. UDOT has also reduced its light-duty fleet by 5 vehicles. • Right size your vehicle type- UDOT is going to continue to look at our fleet and right size our vehicle to the lowest most fuel efficient that we can. • Results- UDOT has downsized 4 vehicles from a ½ ton to a mini-pickup’s. 2 vehicles from a ¾ to a ½ ton pickup. 4 vehicles from a 1 ton to a ¾ ton pickup.
