  1. Photo Analysis Using Images to Extract Information

  2. What is Digital Image Analysis? In Photo Analysis you edit and manipulate a image to extract information from it. REMEMBER: Start with an image—end with an answer

  3. What is Image J? • Image J is a computer program in which you can edit and extract information from digital photos.

  4. How to Use Image J • Step 1: Determine what you want to measure. (length of a road, area of a building etc.)

  5. How to Use Image J • Step 1: Determine what you want to measure. (length of a road, area of a building etc.)

  6. How to Use Image J • Step 1: Determine what you want to measure. (length of a road, area of a building etc.) • Step 2: Find a reference in the picture (ex. A football field is 300 ft. in length, a standard parking space is 8 ft. wide etc.)

  7. How to Use Image J • Step 1: Determine what you want to measure. (length of a road, area of a building etc.) • Step 2: Find a reference in the picture (ex. A football field is 300 ft. in length, a standard parking space is 8 ft. wide etc.)

  8. How to Use Image J • Step 1: Determine what you want to measure. (length of a road, area of a building etc.) • Step 2: Find a reference in the picture (ex. A football field is 300 ft. in length, a standard parking space is 8 ft. wide etc.) • Step 3: Find the relationship between the distances • Step 4: Get your answer

  9. Applications of Photo Analysis • Measuring distances • Determining area • Urban planning (where to put roads, sewage, and drains) • Astronomy • Medical Applications • Photo Analysis can be used in many areas to determine certain information by only looking at a picture. In a sense a picture really is worth a thousand words.
