  2. Basic Facts • The Great Plague lasted from 1665 and 1666 • The Great Plague was caused by rat fleas. • A series of this Bubonic Plague started in Europe on 1347, it was referred to as “Black Death”. • The Great Plague estimated to kill 100,000 people.

  4. Death Rates • When the Plague was at it’s peak, the death rate was 8,000 deaths per week. • The death toll in London slowed on February 1666 • On February 1666, the King decided it was safe to return to England.

  5. Total Deaths • The Black Death was one of the most devastating pandemics ever. • The case of England’s Black Death killed a total of 70,000 people. • On occasion, carts would come by houses to collect the dead.

  7. How it came to England • The Great Plague originated from China. • It spread through trade routes and it ended up in England. • To help stop the plague, they burned the areas most affected by the plague.

  8. How the infection started • The infection was first found 300 years before it hit London. • Black Death returned every 10 years or so • The 1665 Black Death case is referred to as The Great Plague because it was the last major epidemic in London

Fighting Efforts • Nathaniel Hodges, a doctor of the time, thought that sweating out the disease was a way to help the infected. • He also egged on victims to burn anything they had to make heat and smoke. • Since victim’s houses were made of wood, he wasn’t exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer.
