National Military Memorial Park - National Military Memorial Park is a commitment by the people of Bengaluru & Karnataka, & their Representative Government to honour the men and families of Fallen Armed forces heroes from Karnataka who had served and sacrificed their lives for the Nation in various conflicts since Independence… - The central piece of the Memorial Park is the traditional ‘VeeraGallu’, an imposing 75’ tall monolithic granite monument, under the canopy of the tallest flag pole in the country, flying a suitably large sized National Flag, symbolizing the strength & courage of conviction of our martyrs.- The Memorial Park, coming up in Bengaluru at the 7.5 acre vacant space, adjacent to the Indira Gandhi Musical Fountain and co-located with Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium, along the Shri T. Chowdaiah Road, is planned to enhance greenery & lung space for use by the local residents. "Martyrs, my friend, have to choose between being forgotten, mocked or used.   3. Why a National Military Memorial? National Military Memorial Park, Bengaluru, and all other memorials are meant to serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for younger generation.The proposed Memorial Park 'Veera Gallu' is an imposing and traditional monolithic granite monument which will symbolize the strength, courage of conviction of soldiers.The memorial will consist of a Motivational Hall where pictures of great men and other facts on the history of the armed forces will be displayed. "Every country in the world honors its heroes and their families. Bengaluru will be the first city and Karnataka the first state to do so, post independence.” - Member of Parliament Rajeev Chandrasekhar

Objective of the National Military Memorial Park - To enable a platform for the dependent families of martyrs to pay their obeisance for the patriotic fervor and the sacrifices made by martyrs for the security of the nation - Generate a level of reverence in the minds of citizens towards the martyrs.- Arouse curiosity, generate inspiration and develop high levels of motivation to enable the younger generation in patriotic fervor and engage in national security commitments in addition to their normal activities.- Generation/development  of  militarized psyche (security consciousness) on the public/citizenry through self-discipline, secularised social values, nationalistic fervor/patriotism, alertness to face any un-predictable future situations/events by preparing one-self well in advance.   “Anyone who has ever looked into the glazed eyes of a soldier dying on the battlefield will think hard before starting a war.” - Otto von Bismarck

  6. Theme of the Motivational Hall A below ground level Motivational Hall (72m x 14 m) is planned. As the very name implies, this space is planned very imaginatively with meticulously selected contents and laid out with the specific aim of bringing about desired effect of inspiring, motivating and informing the minds of the youth and other visitors.The National Emblem ‘Ashoka Pillar’ will be located at the middle of the Motivation Hall. It is planned to erect busts of Field Marshal KM Kariappa, OBE, Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw, MC, and a large sized photograph / Bust of Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh, DFC. Photographs (30” x 20”) of the 21 recipients of ParamVir Chakra belonging to all states and the Service Chiefs (COAS, CNS and CAS) hailing from Karnataka, are also displayed ,suitably bordered and framed. “Perfect soldier, perfect gentleman, never gave offence to anyone, not even the enemy.” - A. One of the main battle tanks used by the Indian Army The Battle of Asal Uttar in Punjab was the turning point of the 1965 war, where the brave Air Force Air warriors and soldiers of the Indian Army turned the tide against a Pakistani offensive with 300 Patton tanks. “The patriot volunteer, fighting for country and his rights, makes the most reliable soldier on earth.” - Thomas J. A Missile Boat of 1971 war A squadron of Missile Boats of Indian Navy led by Commander Babru Bhan Yadav, in a daring & audacious move, attacked the Karachi Harbour on the night of Dec 4 -5, 1971, sinking a number of ships of the Pakistani Navy and setting ablaze the fuel storage tanks at the Karachi harbour, thus crippling the Pakistani Navy. “The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.” - Douglas MacArthur

A MIG 23 Fighter Aircraft at the NMMThe MIG 23 fighter aircrafts of the Indian Air Force were dreaded & feared by Pilots of the Pakistan Air Force The Battle of Asal Uttar in Punjab and Longewal were the turning points of the 1965 war, where the brave Air Force Air Warriors and soldiers of the Indian Army turned the tide against a Pakistani offensive with 300 Patton tanks “Wars come and go, but my soldiers stay eternal.” - TupacShakur

The Memorial Site … “The function of a citizen and a soldier are inseparable.” - Benito Mussolini National Military Memorial Park, Bengaluru, and all other memorials are meant also to serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for younger generation – to familiarize them with the real heroes of India and to serve as icons for them. To arouse curiosity, generate inspiration and develop motivation and patriotic fervor, a Motivational Hall displaying artifacts of historical importance and personal valour has also been set up to benefit the younger generation.

  12. A below ground level Motivational Hall is an effort to preserve the greenery of the park above the Hall.

Lush Green Park  The Memorial Park design incorporates green, lush, forested Park – a solemn, somber and inspirational space in the very heart of Bengaluru - consistent with the Heritage and sustainability objectives of the city. Many more ornamental trees are being planted in the Memorial Park to increase foliage and greenery.
